Tunisia is currently facing a water crisis that is getting worse every year. On 25 July 2021, the adoption of new measures led to a structural crisis in the water sector and a shortage in all regions of the country.

Yet previous governments have often cited the lack of a legislative framework to meet current water management needs as an argument for enacting new laws. However, widely criticised in the previous parliamentary session, the new draft law was not adopted in a plenary session held for this purpose.

We welcome Houssin Rhili, an expert in development and resource management, who has conducted research on the legislative and legal system of water in Tunisia to shed light on the policies implemented by the Tunisian state since 1956 in terms of water resource management.
